EarthInfo Day

EarthInfo Day, which will take place during the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UNFCCC, will provide the opportunity to strengthen engagement and connect information and requirements between the science community, and government and non-government stakeholders to benefit the intergovernmental process and implementation of the Paris Agreement. The event, subtitled 'Linking Earth observation with the global response to climate change,' will outline the current state of the climate and provide an outlook on developments and opportunities to support decision making on risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation at the regional and national levels. It will also aim to contribute to the global stocktake by providing learning from the science community to inform and motivate the acceleration of progress based on the best available science. More specifically, EarthInfo Day will feature speakers from UN and international science organizations and agencies and the scientific community who will address: the status of the climate and the global carbon budget and the development of indicators to support adaptation and mitigation; the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Implementation Plan 2016, which discusses the necessary climate variables, indicators and actions to support the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); new developments in the estimation of GHG emissions from Earth observations to support national inventories; and Earth observation actions and services to support adaptation in Africa. There will also be a poster session and time for one-to-one discussions with experts. EarthInfo Day is being organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat.
