Earth Debate: Food Security – How Do We Feed 9 Billion People in 2050?

The Earth Debates are being organized by the UK's Natural History Museum, in partnership with the Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future and the British Council. Through a series of four debates, a panel of leading experts chaired by Richard Black, the BBC's environment correspondent, will tackle key issues at the heart of the green economy agenda of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The debates will be webcast live from the Museum. This debate is based on the fact that the projected increase in human population size, combined with the uneven distribution of resources, will put unprecedented pressure on sustainable development. It focuses on determining what options are available for finding a balance between the demands of a growing population and maintaining an environment that can provide the essential services, food, water and raw materials for a sustainable future.
