E-Discussion on Localizing the Architecture of SME Engagement

This online consultation will discuss the most effective ways to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to align their business goals with sustainable development, including local level efforts to help translate universal principles to the SME context. It will also consider: approaches and tools for supporting and engaging SMEs in making sustainable development a priority; technology transfer of cutting-edge technology; and knowledge to advance sustainable development between the public and private sector and large multinational corporations and SMEs. This consultation is part of a series of consultations on ‘Engaging with the Private Sector' that will be conducted globally, regionally, nationally and online. The consultations will address five themes: developing government policies that drive corporate sustainability; enhancing partnerships; mobilizing private sustainability finance; localizing the architecture of SME engagement; and building trust through enhanced transparency and accountability. The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Global Compact serve as the co-leaders of this consultation. The consultations are expected to result in a final report that synthesizes the e-debate and the global, regional and national consultations. Twitter: #privatesector2015.
