E-Consultation on Combating Soil Salinization in Eurasia

This e-consultation will discuss how to promote sustainable soil management in the Eurasian region, including the Russian Federation, Central Asia and the Caucasus. The e-consultation also aims to identify research gaps and strategies to increase awareness on soil salinization and to attract investments for soil improvement and reclamation. The consultation will address questions on five topics, including: approaches and methods for improving soil management to reduce soil salinization; ways to increase public awareness and knowledge on soil management and soil salinization, including the awareness of agricultural extension workers; gaps in scientific knowledge related to the management of saline lands; mechanisms for monitoring soil salinity, including the potential need for a database on soil salinity; and harmonization of methods for quantifying soil salinity. The discussion is expected to inform the Eurasian Center for Food Security's (ECFS) current and future progammes and the Eurasian Soil Partnership's activities.
