Conference on the World Financial and Economic Crisis and Its Impact on Development
A global conference “at the highest level” will assess the crisis that has devastated the world economy. UN General Assembly (UNGA) President d’Escoto has convened a Commission of Experts chaired by Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz. The Commission and the meeting of the Economic and Social Council with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Trade Organization (WTO) are expected to contribute to the preparations for the June summit. The UNGA President is expected to circulate a draft outcome text for the summit for negotiation in early May.
