Community Forest Management to Assure Sustainable Development

This side event is being organized during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) by the Rights and Resources Initiative, Alianza Mesoamericana de Pueblos y Bosques (AMPB) and Consejo Civil Mexicano para la Silvicultura Sostenible (CCMSS). The aim of the event is to reflect on the role of forest communities and indigenous peoples in sustainable development. It will highlight a new global analysis of the benefits and impacts of tenure reform around the world since 1992, and share lessons and experiences from Mesoamerica, specifically Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama.
