The Group of 77 (G-77) will mark its 50th anniversary with a summit highlighting the contribution made by G-77 countries to shaping a more just, equal and peaceful world. The Plurinational State of Bolivia, which currently holds the G-77/China presidency, will host the meeting. UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General Irina Bokova will attend, along with heads of states and other international organisations. The Group of 77 is the largest grouping of developing countries in the UN. It exists to promote developing countries' collective economic interests in the context of intergovernmental negotiations within the UN system. The G-77 also promotes South-South cooperation for development.
