The Climate and Clean Air Conference 2024 will discuss science and policy, share best practices, and develop a shared agenda in key carbon emitting sectors, including agriculture, fossil fuels, household energy, heavy-duty vehicles and engines, cooling, and waste. The conference aims to focus on the cost of inaction, identifying and highlighting opportunities to further scale up implementation of the Global Methane Pledge, Clean Air Flagship, and Kigali Amendment.
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) will host the conference, which will bring together government representatives, intergovernmental organizations, donors, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector, finance institutions, and other stakeholders from the African region. The event will convene on the margins of the sixth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6).
The week-long event will feature plenary session on global, regional, and national efforts to reduce methane, black carbon, and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), including the benefits of fast action, national policy and planning, and financing for implementation. Science-policy dialogues will convene on emerging science and how new information can inform policy development. Technical sessions will showcase best practices in key emitting sectors, and practical sessions will further refine workplans.
The CCAC is a voluntary international coalition of governments, international organizations, the private sector, and NGOs. It aims to reduce emissions from short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP), avoid millions of premature deaths, promote food and energy security, and address near-term climate change.
