At the Crossroads of Conservation and Development

The full title for this side event is “At the Crossroads of Conservation and Development: transboundary natural resource governance for enhanced cooperation, security and livelihoods in border regions”. The side event is organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Cooperation for Development. It will highlight experiences and lessons learned from several contemporary programmes that take advantage of regional cooperation for sustainable development. The aim of the side event is to demonstrate that international policy and strategic goals can be institutionalized and translated into effective practice, providing insights for decision-making, programme design, investment, methodologies and stakeholder engagement, and applied at regional to local scales. The event focuses on systemic and objective planning and management approaches and their bearing on green economic development in transboundary contexts.
