At its ninth session, the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Committee on Sustainable Development will discuss the role of technology and innovation in driving economic growth in the region, including consideration of the African Mining Vision, which envisages drawing on mineral resources to foster sustainable socio-economic development. The meeting will provide a platform for the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), a multi-stakeholder group. The Forum will make recommendations to the July 2015 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HPLF), and provide guidance to UNECA on implementation of its 2014/15 work programme. The meeting is organized jointly with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), in collaboration with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
