The 78th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) will take place in February 2025.

The Standing Committee provides policy guidance to the Secretariat on the implementation of the Convention, oversees the management of the Secretariat’s budget, and oversees and coordinates the work of other committees and working groups.

The 77th meeting of the CITES Standing Committee illustrated the importance of collaboration with other organizations and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), including the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the World Organization on Animal Health (WOAH), and adopted recommendations on consideration of possible future interaction between CITES and the high seas treaty.
