The 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development will focus on the theme, ‘Ensuring Healthy Lives and Promoting Well-being for All at All Ages’. The Conference will hear reports on programmes and interventions ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages and hold a general debate on the topic.
The session will feature interactive discussions, including on world demographic trends and a draft proposed programme plan for 2026. The Conference will also hold a general debate on the further implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development at the global, regional, and national levels as well as on the flow of financial resources for assisting in the Programme’s further implementation. The Programme of Action’s people-centered approach and its special attention to vulnerable populations aim to help ensure no one is left behind. Implementing the Programme of Action is key to achieve the SDGs and their targets, especially SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 3 (good health and well-being), SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 5 (gender equality), SDG 10 (reduced inequalities), and SDG 13 (climate action).
The Commission on Population and Development is composed of 47 Member States elected by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for a period of four years on the basis of geographic distribution. The Commission advises the Council on population issues and trends and monitors and assesses the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development.
