The Third Air Quality for Central Asia Conference will discuss recommendations to improve air quality in the region. Participants will consider a range of actions, including legislation, technical solutions, institutional strengthening, cross-border cooperation, and public engagement to foster a shift to clean air.
Central Asian countries rely on fossil fuels for heating, industry, and transport, and air pollution from these uses impacts human health. Other air pollution problems facing the region include sand and dust storms and burning of waste. The Conference will consider opportunities to combat these challenges, including through improved monitoring and forecasting of dust storms and implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
The Air Quality Central Asia Platform and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) will convene the Conference.
