The 28th session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) will focus on two priority themes: diversifying economies in a world of accelerated digitalization; and technology foresight and technology assessment for sustainable development. The Commission will also review progress in the implementation and follow-up to the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and hear presentations on science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy reviews.
The CSTD is a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN focal point for STI for development. The UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) hosts the Commission’s secretariat. The Commission serves as a forum for strategic planning, sharing foresight on critical trends in STI, showcasing lessons learned and best practices, and highlighting emerging and disruptive technologies. The Commission also analyzes how STI, including information and communications technologies (ICTs), serve as enablers of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
