1st Global Joint Summit of Human and Veterinary Medicines Regulatory Authorities to Preserve Antimicrobials

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, (FAO) the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO) are convening the 1st Global Joint Summit of Human and Veterinary Medicines Regulatory Authorities to Preserve Antimicrobials. This Summit will bring together heads of regulatory authorities for human and animal medicines to emphasize the importance of regulation for antimicrobials globally. Participants will discuss how to optimize existing legislation and enforcement measures and identify non-regulatory solutions to address and phase out over the counter sale of antibiotics.

Following the summit, a Global Regulatory Forum will be established as a platform for continuous engagement of regulators on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and management.

The World Health Organization (WHO) identified AMR as one of the ten biggest health challenges facing the world in its 2019-2023 Work Programme.
