19th Session of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) Council

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host the 19th Regular Session of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) Council. The Council will examine project and issues in three thematic clusters: healthy communities and ecosystems; climate change – low-carbon economy; and greening the economy in North America. The Council will also examine implementation of its new initiative to increase engagement with stakeholders and the public, the North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA). Every year the Council, composed of the cabinet-level environment ministers from Canada, Mexico and the US, meet to discuss challenges and identify opportunities for enhancing environmental cooperation in North America, and provide guidance to the CEC. The CEC is an intergovernmental organization established to implement the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), the environmental side accord to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
