The 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development will focus on the theme, ‘Taking Action for Just Energy Transition’. The Forum will explore pathways to accelerate the energy transition in a just way.
The five UN Regional Commissions will jointly organize the Forum, which will bring together government representatives, UN entities, international organizations, experts from the energy sector, and other stakeholders. The Forum will feature parallel sessions, roundtables, and side events on a range of energy issues, including access to electricity, access to clean cooking, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. Participants will also consider cross-cutting issues like artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization, gender, and youth.
The Forum is expected to achieve three key outcomes:
- Enhanced knowledge and capacity of Member States to intensify efforts towards achieving SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and the Paris Agreement on climate change through a just energy transition;
- Political commitments by governments and others to accelerate and strengthen efforts to support SDG implementation; and
- Enhanced recognition by the UN Regional Commissions on the importance of just energy transition and commitment to expand support to Member States to help achieve SDG 7 and the nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
