Created by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Council in 1970, the 21-member COPESCAALC aims to promote management and sustainable development of inland fisheries and aquaculture in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). In addition to examining the implementation of decisions and recommendations taken at its 11th Session, the Committee will discuss, inter alia: the current state of continental fishing and aquaculture in COPESCAALC countries; options for strengthening the role of COPESCAALC; progress in consolidating the Aquaculture Network of the Americas; recommendations for FAO priorities regarding fishing and aquaculture in LAC; and the results of the workshop on “Formulation of multisectoral policies for sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture.”
