UNECE Regional Coordination Meeting Discusses Rio+20 Preparations

UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro chaired the meeting of the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) for the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region, and briefed regional directors of UN agencies on preparations for the Rio+20 Conference.

UNECE28 October 2011: Chairing the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) for the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region, UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro provided an update on global preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). According to the latest issue of “UNECE Weekly,” a draft Regional Inter-agency Report on the transition to a green economy in the UNECE region will be presented to the regional implementation meeting (RIM) for the ECE region, for discussion with governments and other stakeholders.

The RCM, convened by the UNECE Executive Secretary in Geneva, Switzerland, on 17 October 2011, brings together regional directors of UN agencies to address issues of high priority on the UN development agenda to ensure policy coherence at the regional level and guide inter-agency cooperation.

The RIM will take place on 1-2 December 2011, and serve as the region’s preparatory meeting for the UNCSD. [Publication: UNECE Weekly, 24-28 October]
