Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this training course will enable participants to: learn about risk assessment in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and review its general concepts, principles and methodologies; understand the framework in which risk assessment is conducted, the mandate of a risk assessor and how to establish an interdisciplinary team in the context of risk assessment; understand the need for and use of baseline information in a risk assessment; review the format and key elements of risk assessment reports/dossiers and risk assessment summaries; develop skills in using and interpreting existing information, as well as identifing and addressing information gaps; and test the Guidance on Risk Assessment of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs). Parties from the Latin American Region are asked to nominate participants no later than 14 October 2011.
