Japan Launches National Preparatory Committee for UNCSD

Japan's National Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) will seek to gather Japanese Major Groups' input to the UNCSD compilation document.

Rio+2012 August 2011: Japan has launched a National Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), according to an announcement on the website of the UNCSD Secretariat. The aim of the Committee is to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders from the nine Major Groups on issues related to the UNCSD, leading to the submission of Japanese stakeholders’ input to the UNCSD compilation document.

The Committee held its first meeting on 13 July 2011, and will meet again on 23 August 2011. The Committee also plans to hold two workshops, the first on 1 September 2011 to collect a wide range of stakeholders’ opinions. Input to the compilation document is due by 1 November 2011.
