7 August 2008: The Secretariat of the Convention on
Biological Diversity (CBD) has notified organizations participating in the
Biodiversity Indicators Partnership about the timetable for preparing the third
edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-3) and has invited these
organizations to make the latest scientific information available for the
Outlook.

The GBO provides a summary of the status of biological diversity and
an analysis of the steps being taken by the global community to ensure that
biodiversity is conserved and used sustainably, and that benefits arising from
the use of genetic resources are shared equitably. GBO-3 will be formally
launched in 2010, the year proclaimed as the International Year of
Biodiversity, and a working draft will become available in early 2009. [The Notification]
