The Youth Forum on the Future of the Environment aims to amplify the voices of young environmental leaders from around the world. The Forum will identify opportunities for youth engagement in environmental actions and develop strategies to secure the future of the environment.
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and GO4SDGs will support the event in collaboration with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Governments of Oman and Hungary. The Forum will bring together youth activists, youth organizations and networks, and youth delegates to the UN with UN Member States, UN agencies and international organizations, academia, the private sector, and civil society.
The Forum will empower youth to advance advocacy and achieve intergenerational justice and equity through reinvigorated environmental multilateralism. The Forum will focus on three areas:
- Jobs of the future, which will explore green economy opportunities and entrepreneurship, in line with the goals and targets of the ‘Green Jobs for Youth Pact’;
- Science-policy interface, including opportunities to bridge the gap between scientific research and policymaking through fostering collaboration among youth, scientists, and policymakers for future-oriented environmental decision making; and
- Intergenerational collaboration, which will promote meaningful collaborations between generations to empower youth to safeguard the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment and develop an action plan that outlines priorities, recommendations, and commitments.
The Forum will align with the Summit of the Future pillars and build on the outcomes of the 2024 Global Youth Environment Assembly and the Global Youth Declaration on Environment.
