CBD Secretariat Circulates Minutes of COP-MOP 5 Bureau Meeting

The bureau meeting considered: the biosafety work programme and calendar of meetings during the 2011-2012 biennium; the ceremony for the opening for signature of the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress; and the dates and venues of future COP-MOP bureau meetings.

19 January 2011: The CBD Secretariat has released the minutes of the first COP-MOP 5 bureau meeting. which met on 19 December 2010, in Kanazawa, Japan. The meeting considered, among other issues: the biosafety work programme and calendar of meetings for 2011-2012; and the opening for signature of the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress.

On the work programme, members considered a document linking COP-MOP decisions with intersessional activities, including a list of meetings and funds needed to implement the activities. The meeting agreed to hold a special bureau meeting to develop a strategy for mobilizing funds for biosafety activities and that such special sessions to mobilize funds for intersessional activities should be held prior to future COP-MOP meetings.

On the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Protocol, the Secretariat informed members that a ceremony for the opening for signature is planned 7-8 March 2011, at UN Headquarters, in collaboration with the Rio+20 Preparatory Committee.
