The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will hold Open-Ended Consultations on its sustainable energy work in preparation for the 24th session of its Committee on Sustainable Energy. Member States will gather to review implementation progress of the 2014-2015 programme of work. Topics to be discussed will address a range of issues facing energy, such as: cross-sectoral integration; cost-effective development of integrated electricity systems; smart integration of variable renewable resources into the energy mix; deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) to mitigate the rise in coal use; guidelines for methane management; and implementation of the Hammamet Declaration. The Consultations' two-day agenda includes progress reports, keynote addresses on innovative thinking in energy and energy policy realities in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and discussions on, inter alia, a strategic framework, the Paris Climate Change Conference, and a vision for the future and next steps. The Geneva Energy Conversations workshop on 'Scenarios for Sustainable Energy' will be held on 26 May 2015 and will inform the Open-Ended Consultations.
