2 June 2009: In a video message to the 19th anniversary dinner of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 2 June 2009, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underlined that the ICC had helped the UN launch the Global Compact 10 years ago.
He stressed the role the ICC plays in addressing climate change, urging business to join the UN “Seal the Deal” campaign. He also underscored the need for businesses to be “advocates for climate action,” asking them to explain to their stakeholders that “doing the right thing for the climate is also the smart thing for global competitiveness, trade and prosperity.” [UN Press Release]
