UNESCO Announces Book on Biospheres in Chile

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the publication of 'Reservas de la Biosfera de Chile — Laboratorios para la Sustentabilidad.' The book seeks to generate research and improve the management of Chilean biosphere reserves, as well as motivate the interest of the Chilean population in the uniqueness of the ecosystems and human livelihoods in the reserves.

UNESCO27 March 2014: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the publication of ‘Reservas de la Biosfera de Chile — Laboratorios para la Sustentabilidad.’ The book seeks to generate research and improve the management of Chilean biosphere reserves, as well as motivate the interest of the Chilean population in the uniqueness of the ecosystems and human livelihoods in the reserves.

Through informational texts and images, the publication presents descriptions of natural and cultural heritage within biosphere reserves in Chile. The book is the result of collaboration between the Institute of Geography at the Catholic University of Chile, the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) is an intergovernmental scientific programme meant to give a scientific basis for the improvement of relationships between people and the environment. It’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves currently counts 621 biosphere reserves in 117 countries globally.
