To coincide with the designation by the UN General Assembly of 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the theme of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2014 will be 'Island Biodiversity'. A Special Event to celebrate the Day will be hosted by the Permanent Missions of Grenada, Samoa, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Mauritius, as well as the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA), at UN Headquarters (contact krishna1@un.org). Worldwide, more than 44 countries have registered events and activities in support of the Day.
