UNDP, Singapore Establish Center to Support Public Service for Sustainable Development

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Singapore have announced their partnership to establish a Global Centre For Public Service Excellence, which will build capacity in design and delivery of public services in developing countries.

The Centre will serve as a shared arena for knowledge sharing and policy thinking on public service capacity for sustainable development.

UNDP2 July 2012: Helen Clark, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator, and Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore’s Transport Minister, announced a partnership to establish a Global Centre for Public Service Excellence by the end of 2012. The Centre will serve as a shared arena for knowledge sharing and policy thinking on public service capacity for sustainable development.

The proposed Global Centre, to be based in Singapore, aims to strengthen the capacity of developing countries to design and implement effective public services. It also will conduct research and promote South-South cooperation.

The announcement was made on the occasion of the World Cities Summit 2012, taking place in Singapore, from 1-4 July 2012. UNDP and the Government of Singapore will jointly resource the center. [UNDP Press Release]
