UN Secretary-General Highlights Priorities Ahead of G-20 Summit

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed an informal meeting in the UN General Assembly, noting that his expectations from the upcoming Group of 20 Leaders' Summit and the UNCSD are very similar, in that he hopes for a response to the global financial crisis based on inclusive green growth that can drive sustainable development.

5 June 2012: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed an informal meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), where delegates gathered to express their views ahead of the summit of the Group of 20 (G20). The G20 Leaders’ Summit, to be held on 18-19 June 2012, in Los Cabos, Mexico, will consider how to stimulate the global economy and create jobs.

Ban indicated that his expectations from Los Cabos and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), which will take place immediately following the G-20 Summit, are very similar. He emphasized the need for a coordinated solution to the worldwide jobs crisis and decisive action to avoid a new global recession.
