Choosing Our Future: Open and Participatory Sustainable Development Governance

This governance workshop is being organized as a side event during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), by The Access Initiative in partnership with the European Environmental Bureau, Article 19, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Stakeholder Forum, the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the European Environmental Agency (EEA), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the World Future Council, the Inspection Panel, the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE), Fundaco Getulio Vargas, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Regional Environmental Center. The event will highlight governance commitments from around the world, develop an agenda of good governance reforms for the coming decade, and advance ideas on how to build legal frameworks at the national, regional and international levels to implement Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development on the participation of citizens, access to information and public awareness.
