Brazil, UN-HABITAT to Collaborate on Sustainable Urban Development

Under the one-year agreement, Brazil's Ministries of the Environment (MMA) and Cities (MC) will help UN-HABITAT develop projects in the areas of sanitation, large-scale production of social housing and urban mobility through a series of studies, publications and meetings to discuss and elaborate recommendations in the three areas.

UN-HABITAT17 May 2012: The Government of Brazil and UN-HABITAT have signed a technical cooperation agreement to work together on constructing an international agenda on sustainable urban development.

The accord was signed in Brasilia, Brazil, on 17 May 2012, by the Director of the UN-HABITAT Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), Alain Grimard, and Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira.

Under the one-year agreement, Brazil’s Ministries of the Environment (MMA) and Cities (MC) will help UN-HABITAT develop projects in the areas of sanitation, large-scale production of social housing and urban mobility through a series of studies, publications and meetings to discuss and elaborate recommendations in the three areas.

The first products of the collaboration will be presented at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). [MMA Press Release (Portuguese)]
