Earth Debate: Green Cities in a Green Economy – How to Pioneer a Sustainable Transition?

The Earth Debates are being organized by the UK's Natural History Museum, in partnership with the Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future and the British Council. Through a series of four debates, a panel of leading experts chaired by Richard Black, the BBC's environment correspondent, will tackle key issues at the heart of the green economy agenda of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The debates will be webcast live from the Museum. Noting that cities will be the powerhouse for future development and growth, and that planning their future will make or break a green economy, this debate focuses on two questions: how can the historic human infrastructure of cities be transformed from grey to green by learning from the lessons of nature; and how will they provide for the health and wellbeing of people, as well as the environment?
