UNOSD Opens Workshop on Planning and Implementation

14 November 2012:The UN Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) is holding a three-day international workshop in Incheon, Republic of Korea, on “Strengthening Planning and Implementation Capacities for Sustainable Development in Post-Rio Context.”

The international workshop, taking place from 14-16 November 2012, will focus on countries’ experiences developing and carrying out national sustainable development strategies, and examine regional trends in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Working group sessions will consider: the challenges of reconciling national planning instruments; the suitability of existing knowledge and capacity building efforts for sustainable development planning; mainstreaming of the outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20); facilitating the transition towards a green economy; strengthening institutional governance for reconciling planning processes; and scaling up of good practices.

The UN and the Government of the Republic of Korea established UNOSD in 2011 to support governments in implementing international agreements on sustainable development, including Agenda 21, the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation (JPOI), and Rio+20. The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) manages UNOSD, with support provided by the Ministry of Environment, Republic of Korea; Yonsei University; and the City of Incheon. The Office promotes sustainable development through knowledge exchange, research and policy analysis, capacity development and partnerships.
