September 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section, with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the European Commission, have launched the 2011 round of the Joint Wood Energy Enquiry (JWEE).

The enquiry, initiated in 2006, aims to collect data on the sources and uses of wood as an energy source, which are often obscured by general data on renewables, with the objective to foster cooperation between the energy and forestry sectors, while increasing available knowledge about wood energy consumption.
