The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) aims to promote collaboration between the parties, mobilizing WWT's technical and capacity building expertise to enhance the implementation of the Ramsar Convention.
1 November 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to promote the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
The Memorandum aims to promote collaboration between the parties, mobilizing WWT’s technical and capacity building expertise to enhance implementation of the Ramsar Convention.
The agreement outlines the following activities: expanding the Wetland Link International network of wetland centers; promoting the harmonization of wetland conservation policies across Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) – including the Ramsar Convention, the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA), and the Partnership for the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAFP) – as well as the UN and other international partners; and assisting in the development of policy and technical/scientific instruments, largely through the Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) process.
