12 January 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) has added new interactive tools to the Ramsar Sites Information Service. Dynamic maps and interactive charts offer new ways of presenting data of the List of Wetlands of International Importance.

The new features include dynamic maps showing the number and surface area of Ramsar Sites by country, the countries that have ratified the Convention, the growth in number of contracting parties since 1971, as well as regional data.

The interactive charts enable users to identify, for example: the best represented types of wetlands in the Ramsar List and which ones are missing; the most-used criterion to designate wetlands as sites of international importance in different regions; and the comparison of results between regions.
