Provisional Agendas Issued for Lima

The UNFCCC Secretariat has issued provisional agendas for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 10) to be held in Lima, Peru, from 1-12 December 2014.

UNFCCC2 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has issued provisional agendas for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 10) to be held in Lima, Peru, from 1-12 December 2014.

The provisional agendas for the separate bodies, namely COP 20, CMP 10, the 41st session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 41) and the 41st session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 41), have been made available on the UNFCCC Lima Climate Change Conference webpage.

The SBSTA 41 agenda includes: matters relating to science and review; methodological issues under the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol; and market and non-market mechanisms under the Convention.

The SBI 41 agenda includes: reporting from, and review of, developed and developing country Parties; work programme to further the understanding of the diversity of nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs); national adaptation plans (NAPs); the 2013–2015 review; and gender and climate change.

The Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with Climate Change Impacts and response measures will be considered by both SBI and SBSTA.

COP 20 will consider, inter alia: reports of the subsidiary bodies, ADP and various institutions established under the Convention; second review of the adequacy of Article 4, paragraph 2(a) and (b), of the Convention (developed countries’ mitigation commitments); administrative, financial and institutional matters, including decision-making in the UNFCCC process; and other matters referred to it by the subsidiary bodies.

CMP 10 will take up, inter alia: issues relating to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI); the report of the Compliance Committee; reporting from, and review of, developed country Parties; clarification of the text in section G (Article 3, paragraph 7 ter) of the Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol, in particular the information to be used to determine the “average annual emissions for the first three years of the preceding commitment period;” and other matters referred to it by the subsidiary bodies.

The provisional agenda for the 3rd session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) will be released at a later stage.
