Pew Issues Factsheets on Oceans and UNCSD
story highlights

In preparation for UNCSD (Rio 2012) PrepCom II, the Pew Environment Group has prepared a factsheet on the recommendations of its report submitted to the first intersessional meeting, "Bringing the Ocean Back into the Earth Summit." It has also issued a background document on the history of ocean issues in the Earth Summit.

4 March 2011: The Pew Environment Group has issued two factsheets ahead of the second meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom II) to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio 2012), being held from 7-8 March 2011, in New York, US.

The factsheets are based on Pew’s briefing titled “Bringing the Ocean Back into the Earth Summit,” which was submitted to the first intersessional meeting on the UNCSD in January 2011.

One factsheet highlights the original report’s recommendations for policy objectives and institutional reform for ocean governance as they relate to the objective and themes of the UNCSD. The other is a background document detailing the history of ocean issues in the Earth Summit.

The Pew Environment Group is the conservation arm of the Pew Charitable Trusts, a non-governmental organization.
