OES Bulletin Reports on National Achievements Highlighted During ExCo Meeting

The Bulletin summarizes recent national achievements in the areas of policy, research and development, and technology projects, as they were highlighted by delegates from 15 member countries during the 22nd Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting of the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Implementing Agreement on Ocean Energy Systems (OES).

July 2012: The July issue of the Bulletin of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Implementing Agreement on Ocean Energy Systems (OES) reports on the achievements highlighted by national delegates during the 22nd Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting. The newsletter summarizes achievements relating to national policies and plans of action, conferences, research and development (R&D) initiatives and technology projects.

ExCo 22 took place from 17-18 May 2012, in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. National delegates from 15 of the 19 member countries participated in the meeting, namely Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, UK and US.

Among the reports, China indicated that the Special Plan of 12th five-year for marine renewable energy in China is under progress, and it is expected to be released during 2012. In Japan, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development (NEDO) is currently carrying out two big funding programmes, each one with five years duration. A number of Australian companies active on marine energy were reported as being close to commercial implementation. A Marine Energy Deployment Fund has provided grants to deploy devices in the New Zealand marine environment. Participants also learned that, in September 2011, Canada and the UK signed a Joint Declaration to enhance collaboration between the countries, followed by the signing of the Canada-UK Joint Innovation Statement in May 2012, and several Mexican institutions are conducting ocean energy R&D projects, among other country reports.
