New Ramsar Secretary General Appointed

The Standing Committee of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention) announced that Christopher Briggs has been appointed to, and has accepted, the position of Secretary General.

He will succeed Tiéga Anada who has served the Convention for the past six years.

He will succeed Tiéga Anada, who has served the Convention in that position for the past six years.

Briggs’ appointment was approved by the Ramsar Standing Committee during its 46th meeting held in Gland, Switzerland from 8-12 April 2013. He has previously worked with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNEP-Global Environment Facility (UNEP-GEF) Biosafety Unit, the GEF Secretariat, and the UNDP for the Latin American and Caribbean region based in Panama.
