MOP 25 Agrees Decisions on ODS Alternatives, SIDS

MOP 25 also adopted a decision on phasing out ODS in small island developing States (SIDS) in light of the upcoming Third International Conference on SIDS.

In its decision, MOP 25 requests the Montreal Protocol Secretariat to liaise with the organizers of the Conference to promote discussion on implementation challenges among SIDS with regard to the Montreal Protocol.

mop2525 October 2013: The 25th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (MOP 25) agreed to the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) report on alternatives to ozone depleting substances (ODS). The meeting took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 21-25 October 2013.

MOP 25 also adopted a decision on phasing out ODS in small island developing States (SIDS) in light of the upcoming Third International Conference on SIDS. In its decision, MOP 25 requests the Montreal Protocol Secretariat to liaise with the organizers of the Conference to promote discussion on implementation challenges among SIDS with regard to the Montreal Protocol.

MOP 25 also adopted decisions on: terms of reference for the study of the 2015-2017 multilateral fund (MLF) replenishment; budget; organizational issues related to the TEAP; and membership of Montreal Protocol bodies for 2014.

Discussions were inconclusive on other topics, including the Montreal Protocol amendment proposals, additional funding for the MLF for the implementation of the Protocol to maximize the climate benefit of the accelerated phase-out of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and the harmonization and validation of the climate impact fund.
