goverment-mexico19 April 2013: The Government of Mexico hosted a regional consultation with civil society representatives on the post-2015 development agenda. “Realizing the Future We Want in Latin America and the Caribbean: Towards a Post-2015 Development Agenda” brought together stakeholders from the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region to critically engage with the negotiation process and interact with members of the UN High-level Panel on Post-2015 Development Agenda (HLP).

Participants at the meeting, which convened from 17-19 April 2013, in Guadalajara, Mexico, discussed implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the LAC region, the work-streams and consultations that make up the current post-2015 process, possible issue areas for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the coherence and universality of the post-2015 development framework. HLP member Patricia Espinosa interacted with participants and pledged to continue stakeholder consultations.

The conference resulted in the “Guadalajara Recommendations,” which compiles the views of the private sector, civil society organizations, the media, indigenous groups, and children and youth into one outcome document. A main recommendation is to consider the issue of international migration in the post-2015 development agenda.

The consultations were supported by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the HLP, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the government of Jalisco, Mexico.
