story highlights

In a resolution adopted during its 2012 Substantive Session, ECOSOC decides that the priority theme for the 2013–2014 review and policy cycle of the 50th Commission for Social Development (CSocD) shall be “Promoting empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all.”

16 August 2012: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted a resolution (E/RES/2012/7) deciding, inter alia, that the priority theme for the 2013–2014 review and policy cycle during the Commission for Social Development’s (CSocD) 50th session shall be “Promoting empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all.”

The resolution on the CSocD’s future organization and methods of work, adopted during ECOSOC’s 2012 Substantive Session, also decides that the Commission shall use its agenda item on emerging issues to promote consideration of relevant issues on the ECOSOC agenda, including the theme of the annual ministerial review (AMR).

Reaffirming that the Commission’s current practice of discussing a single core issue over a two-year period has allowed it to go into greater depth in discussions of the issue, the Council also decides to maintain the two-year review and policy cycle.
