26 April 2011: The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as part of its 2011 Organizational Session, met on 26 April 2011 in New York, US, and adopted a decision on the themes of its Annual Ministerial Reviews (AMR) for the next three years, 2012-2014.

According to the ECOSOC multi-year programme of work (E/2011/L.4), the Council decided that the theme of the 2012 AMR will be “Promoting productive capacity, employment and decent work to eradicate poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable and equitable economic growth at all levels for achieving the Millennium Development Goals.” The theme of the 2013 AMR will be “Science, technology and innovation, and the potential of culture, for promoting sustainable development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.” The theme of the 2014 AMR will be “Addressing ongoing and emerging challenges for meeting the Millennium Development Goals in 2015 and for sustaining development gains in the future.”

The AMR was mandated by the 2005 World Summit and launched in 2007. Each AMR session consists of three main elements: a global review of the UN development agenda; a thematic review; and national voluntary presentations by developing and developed countries on their progress in implementing internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
