CTCN, REEEP Launch Climate Tagger Tool
story highlights

Climate Tagger, a knowledge management tool jointly created by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), has been launched with the aim of connecting data from currently disconnected sources of climate change information.

The tool can automatically scan, label, sort and catalogue data and document collections, according to its creators.

ctcn-reep1 December 2014: The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) launched Climate Tagger, a knowledge management tool that aims to connect data from currently disconnected sources of climate change information. The tool can automatically scan, label, sort and catalogue data and document collections, according to its creators.

REEEP and CTCN foresee knowledge-driven organizations using Climate Tagger to streamline their information resources and make them more easily accessible to the climate change knowledge community. The tool was developed using the 2011 reegle Tagging API (now ‘Climate Tagger API’) as a basis. It also relies on the Climate Compatible Development Thesaurus, which contains information on, inter alia, climate change mitigation, adaptation, economy, green growth and REDD+.

REEEP Director General Martin Hiller said the knowledge management system will continually be improved upon and expanded to include more sectors, organizations and other systems. CTCN Director Jukka Uosukainen predicts that, by better connecting the resources and data of their global network, Climate Tagger will have a direct positive impact on technology transfer efforts.

The REEEP and CTCN directors presented the tool to participants at a side event on 1 December 2014 at the UN Climate Change meeting in Lima, Peru. CTCN is the operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism. [REEEP Press Release] [CTCN Press Release] [Climate Tagger Website] [IISD RS Coverage of Lima Climate Change Meeting]
