The Dugong, Seagrass and Coastal Communities Initiative was launched in Abu Dhabi at the S.O.S: Save Our Sirenians – Dugongs and West African Manatees event.
The initiative seeks to provide incentives for conservation activities and environmental safeguards, through financial, educational and knowledge transfer tools.
26 February 2012: The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) has announced the launch of the Dugong, Seagrass and Coastal Communities Initiative, which aims to improve livelihoods and create economic opportunity in exchange for the conservation of dugongs and their seagrass habitat.
The Initiative was launched in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), at the S.O.S: Save Our Sirenians – Dugongs and West African Manatees event, organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)/CMS Office in Abu Dhabi, which services the Dugong and the African Eurasian Birds of Prey Memoranda of Understanding (MOU).
