CITES Announces New Web Resource on Sharks and Rays

The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) announced the establishment of a web section on sharks and manta rays.

The announcement was also made during the 23rd Regular Meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).

CITES22 November 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) has announced the establishment of a web section on sharks and manta rays. The announcement was also made during the 23rd Regular Meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).

The goal of the web section is to help CITES Parties implement effective measures to control international trade in the oceanic whitetip shark, scalloped hammerhead shark, great hammerhead shark, smooth hammerhead shark, porbeagle shark and manta rays, as the regulations will come into force on 14 September 2013.
