A pre-COP meeting ahead of the Santiago Climate Change Conference will take place in San José, Costa Rica, from 8-10 October 2019.
Hosted by the Government of Costa Rica, the meeting will comprise a High-level Segment (HLS) and numerous events on a range of topics, including:
- panel sessions on climate actions by local governments, blue carbon, local climate resources, raising the ambition of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through electric mobility, and carbon markets, among others;
- conferences on, inter alia, productive landscapes, ecosystem benefits of soil, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) and coral reef restoration as a climate
change adaptation measure; and - “satellite” events addressing issues such as long-term strategies (LTS), energy transition, decarbonization, nature-based solutions (NbS), the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan (GAP), climate finance and insurance, and renewable energy.
