One Planet Summit

Heads of State and non-state actors, including business leaders, will come together for the second One Planet Summit to account for the implementation of 12 international commitments made at the inaugural One Planet Summit in December 2017, launched by French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim. The 12 commitments are: 1) responding to extreme events in island States; 2) protecting land and water against climate change; 3) mobilizing researchers and young people to work for the climate; 4) public procurement and access for local governments to green financing; 5) zero emissions target; 6) sectoral shifts to a decarbonized economy; 7) zero-pollution transport; 8) carbon pricing compatible with the Paris Agreement; 9) actions of central banks and businesses; 10) international mobilization of development banks; 11) commitment by sovereign funds; and 12) mobilizing institutional investors.

Following on from the Global Climate Action Summit (GCAS) and the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in the lead-up to the 24th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 24) to the UNFCCC and UN Secretary-General 2019 Climate Action Summit, the event will take place alongside the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). The Summit will aim to build trust and collaboration for ongoing multilateral climate action, further engage public and private actors to raise their ambition, and demonstrate how high-level institutional decision makers as well as individual citizens can “work as one planet” to deliver climate change mitigation solutions and “invent our collective future.”

The One Planet Summit is organized by the Government of France jointly with the UN, the World Bank Group and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

This meeting is taking part during Global Goals Week 2018, which is a collective effort to maximize the value of events and activations held during the opening of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73) and focused on driving progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.
